Common Freelance Activities

Written by Eric Davis on June 25, 2010.

Tracking time is one of the most important activities for freelancers, without it you don't know how much to bill a client. And without billing a client, you won't get paid for your work. And you want to get paid for your work right?

One question I see a lot is "What kind of time should I be tracking?" Luckily, there is a good rule of thumb to use for that:

Track any time that is important to you

Common Freelance Activities

To help brainstorm the different types of time you might want to track, I've created a free PDF that lists the common activities we've seen freelancers use.

A Sight for Sore Eyes

Written by Eric Davis on May 27, 2010.

In order to get SeeProjectRun launched, I used a rather boring default design. After some long nights and a lot of pixel pushing, SeeProjectRun now has a new design that matches all of the other sites:

It's automatically available to all accounts, so you will see it right when you login. I have a few tweaks that I'm still making to it, but I'd rather release something than wait until it's perfect.

I hope this makes it even more fun using SeeProjectRun.

The Value of Customer Feedback

Written by Eric Davis on May 19, 2010.

This is a story about using customer feedback to keep things simple. We launched a few weeks ago with a signup form that looks like this:

Old signup form

I thought it was awesome, especially with the JavaScript effects to hide and show the labels based on your typing. But I was wrong, totally wrong. The same day we launched, one of our customers emailed us to show how it's broken with 1Password.

Whoops

A week later we have a new signup form, this time without all of interaction.

New signup form

And you know what, that customer was right. The new form isn't as fancy but it's way more usable. Getting feedback from real customers is always better than guessing.

And We've Launched

Written by Eric Davis on April 30, 2010.

So that little Beta cloak we've had on for the past two months?

It's gone.

We've launched.

<cheers>

After four months of development, SeeProjectRun is now accepting signups. We're not done (is a web application ever done?). We have plenty of things planned over the next few months but instead of making you wait for them, we're opening the doors right now.

So welcome, go ahead and signup for an account. You'll get 30 days to try everything out before paying.
